Federate, Represent and Promote

Founded in 1984, AFIC is the only professional association in France that focuses exclusively on the Private Equity business.

AFIC is a member of the Association Française des Etablissements de Crédit et des Entreprises d’Investissement (French Association of Credit Institutions and Investment Companies, AFECEI). Management companies must belong to AFIC to be certified by the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) to operate in the sector.

There are two categories of members:

  • 280 active members: These are management and investment companies staffed by private equity specialists
  • 200 associate members from related professions: attorneys, auditors, financial intermediaries, bankers, etc.

AFIC members employ about 3,000 people on a permanent basis in France. Internationally, AFIC cooperates with its counterparts to harmonize industry standards and rules of operation. It is therefore a founding member of the following bodies:

  • IPEV (International Private Equity Valuation board), which is responsible for standardizing
    industry valuation rules at international level
  • PAE (Public Affairs Executive), which represents the profession in Europe vis-à-vis
    EU bodies (Commission, Parliament, Council)
